My Favorite Things About Motherhood

Originally posted June 14, 2017

Everyone likes to make jokes about motherhood, because well, being a mom is challenging. It is single-handedly the most difficult thing I have ever done. It doesn’t go away. Being a parent is a 24/7 job and no matter how old you get, if you’ve had a child, you will always be a parent.

There are many hard and tiring days, but there are also an abundance of good days! Here are my top 3 favorite things about motherhood.

1. Hugs, Kisses, and “I love you’s”

One of the most comforting things in life is when our children spontaneously ask for a hug and kiss, or say, ‘I love you, mommy’. Boys often get a reputation for not wanting to show emotion, but I disagree! Although my boys are very rambunctious, they always have a minute to stop and show momma some love!

2. Seeing the world through an old lens

As you become an adult, it’s so easy to forget to notice the “small stuff”. The clouds in the sky, rainbows, caterpillars, the shapes of buildings; the list goes on! My oldest son is 4 years old, and he notices EVERYTHING. The things he is able to pick out and remember is astonishing to me. It’s a nice reminder to look for the best in things. Sometimes seeing things the way we used to isn’t so bad.

3. Milestones.

The first time they roll over, their first steps, the first time they read a word on their own- it just makes your heart melt. I have only been a stay at home mom for just shy of 2 years, so I’m getting ALL the milestones with my youngest. It is definitely different when you see them growing up right before your eyes every minute of the day, and puts a whole new perspective on the definition of success.

There are so many more things I could write about, but I’ll leave that for another post. So that’s it! Come back tomorrow for  Check out my list of the things I hate most about motherhood!
